Course Description |
Welcome to Biology! As you have known, experienced, and observed, the world around you is full of living things. Biology is the science that investigates this living world. In fact, the word biology means the study of life. What makes something “alive”? What do we as humans need to survive? Why are individuals, populations, and species so diverse? What makes you unique? These are all questions that you will answer as you come to learn and understand more science throughout this course.

Classroom Rules and Expectations:
We as students and teachers have a mutual responsibility to ensure that our class is a positive learning environment. I will offer you a well-organized course with high expectations and support to help you be successful. I will treat you with respect and listen to your ideas and concerns. I expect you to treat your fellow classmates, and me, with respect and to do your best in class. I expect you to participate in activities and discussions and to ask questions when information or assignments are unclear. All of us have a role to play in creating the kind of classroom community where everyone can learn. |
Suggestions for Success |
|
Attendance Policy |
Every student is expected to be in school each day on time. If you are absent, your parent or guardian must call the school. When you return, you must bring in a note to the Main Office. Ms. Nagle will verify that your absence is excused and mark it in PowerSchool.
You must be in your seat when the bell rings or you will be considered Tardy. Excessive Tardies and/or absences will be referred to the Dean of Students, and will be addressed according to School Policy. |
Late Work Policy |
What happens in the RARE occasions that you miss class?
-If your absence is excused, you will have the opportunity to make up missing work. You will have the same number of days that you were absent to turn it in. So, if you were absent from school for two days, your makeup work is due two days later. -A student who misses a test or quiz must arrange a make-up time outside of the class with the teacher. The make-up exam will be different than the exam the class took on the scheduled day. -Late work will not be accepted after unit test review starts. |
Grading Policy |
If you have done poorly on an assignment, there are some possibilities for making up poor grades. You will need to take the initiative if you are trying to improve your grade to see the teacher after school.
